Ruth Erlbeck began her career as an employee of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation and worked in the fields of adult education and political consulting in Latin America. She later took on positions of responsibility at the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), where she managed projects in the areas of energy efficiency, promotion of small and medium-sized enterprises and housing construction, among others. Her activities have taken her to Nicaragua, Colombia, Ecuador, Panama, Ethiopia, Egypt, Mongolia, Thailand, India, China, Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam and other countries, where she was instrumental in the implementation of programs for integrated urban development, energy efficiency and waste management
